May 19th, 2015 / 5:30 PM / Unity Plaza Hartford – Northend Hartford’s “Black Lives Matter” Rally
Bishop John Selders, Minister Cornell Lewis, and other community leaders rallied at Unity Plaza to spread the message of the Black Lives Matter movement assure the community of their worth and their ability to insight change through mass expression. Voices and experiences from all walks of life were heard with the unified message that police action, like all action, needs to be taken without prejudice. A broader message of peace and justice rang.
April 30th, 2015 / 6:30 PM / Trinity College Chapel – Solidarity with Baltimore Debrief and Conversation
Bishop John Selders, Minister Cornell Lewis, State Representative Angel Arce, and other community leaders met with citizens of the Hartford metropolitan area to discuss the events occurring in Baltimore, and to speak on the injustices the movement was founded upon. People of all walks of life spoke out against systemic racism, and called for action to uphold the ideal of a truly integrate, truly equal society.
February 23rd, 2015 / Main Street and City Hall Hartford – Moral Monday March and Die-In
Bishop John Selders, Minister Cornell Lewis, and other community leaders marched a half mile up Main Street to City Hall where they participated in a 4 and a 1/2 minute die-in to represent the equivalent number of hours that Michael Brown’s body lay in the street after he was shot to death in Ferguson. Throughout, they maintained the message that “If we don’t get no justice, they don’t get no peace.”
